Water Well Drilling

Installing a well may be one of the smartest investments you’ll ever make. You’ve probably heard before that owning a well on your land means you don’t pay for water city anymore. While that is absolutely true, there are many more reasons to hire a drilling company so you can say goodbye to that utility bill:

  • A well is a profitable financial investment. It will often increase your home’s value.
  • A well provides security and safety. Enjoy a cold glass of water without worrying about water boil notices, asbestos in your pipes, or fluoride in your water.
  • A well provides you with a level of freedom. You will have complete control over your water. Come drought or water regulation notices, you are free to use as much water as you like because you don’t have to share it with the rest of the city.

The Well Drilling Process

When you call Calicutt Drilling and express interest in drilling a well, our first step is to access historical records. Historical records will indicate existing water wells in the area and provide depth and production reports. This information helps us not only know where to drill but how deep we will need to drill to access the natural water source, which helps us provide you with an accurate quote for the service.

After reviewing historical data for your local area, we will put together a comprehensive cost quote for you. Next, if you're near Tyler, we’ll meet you on-site for a free consultation to determine the best place to drill and install the well. We will then give you a timeframe for when we can begin and approximately how long it will take to finish the project (often less than a week)

We utilize two different well designs. The most common well design is a straight wall completion. The hole is drilled by a drilling rig, the same size from top to bottom and is completed using the same size casing from top to bottom. The casing in the water sand will be slotted screen and gravel pack will be around the screen. The other well design we utilize is called a two part completion. A small diameter test hole is drilled to the bottom of the water sand. The upper portion of the test hole above the water sand is reamed out to a larger diameter and casing is run and cemented in place. We then go inside the well casing with drill pipe and clean out the open hole below the casing. We finish by installing a stainless steel screen into the open hole and gravel packing. We recommend utilizing the two part well completion for residential wells and straight wall completions for all other wells. Differences between the two can be seen in the diagrams below.

If you live in a groundwater conservation district in Texas, we may need to acquire a permit and request approval to drill your well before breaking ground. If you do not live in a groundwater conservation district, we can usually get started right away.
